Country Program Support

KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation's international support is based on quality DOTS expansion, the first anchor of the new Stop TB Strategy.

We presently assist more than 40 countries in four continents. The TB epidemic in each of the countries of these continents has different characteristics  and consequently needs different approaches towards TB control. In addition to the basic quality DOTS, the key elements of the Stop TB Strategy specific for the WHO region can be summarized briefly as follows:

AFRICA & EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN

In many Sub-Saharan African countries tuberculosis is increasing tremendously, fuelled by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation focuses therefore on combined approaches in TB and HIV/AIDS control. In addition, emerging MDR-TB issues have our attention.

ASIA & WESTERN PACIFIC

The tuberculosis epidemic in Asia is stable, and tuberculosis control is characterised by good treatment results, but poor case finding. KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation focuses here on improving case detection through DOTS expansion, community based TB care (CB-DOTS) and Public Private Partnerships (PPP), including dissemination of the international Standards of TB Care (ISTC).

LATIN AMERICA

The tuberculosis epidemic in Latin America is in most countries characterised by a decreasing number of cases. KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation focuses on improving quality of DOTS, Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization (ACSM) and scaling up of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).

EASTERN EUROPE

Tuberculosis in Eastern European countries is characterised by a high level of Multi Drug Resistance (MDR), especially among vulnerable groups such as prisoners. KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation focuses on improving DOTS implementation and establishing DOTS-plus programs.
